Renting a portable toilet should not require decoding an invoice. Most confusion comes from vendors who list a low base rate and bill separately for things customers assumed were included.
Here is the full picture of a standard rental, described plainly, so you know what to expect on delivery day and what to compare when you get a second quote.
Included in every standard rental
- Delivery to your site and placement at the spot you approve
- A pumped, washed, disinfected and inspected unit
- Initial supply of toilet paper and hand sanitizer
- Deodorizing tank charge appropriate to the season
- Scheduled service visits for the duration of the rental
- Pickup and haul-away at the end of the term
What is physically inside a standard unit
A molded seat over the waste tank, a urinal in most men's and unisex models, a vent stack that draws odor upward and out, a lockable door with an occupancy indicator, a coat hook, a toilet paper holder with a roll installed, a wall-mounted hand sanitizer dispenser, and a non-slip floor. Translucent roof panels let in daylight so no power is needed during daytime use.
What happens at a service visit
Service is not just pumping. A full visit removes waste, rinses and washes the interior, disinfects all contact surfaces, recharges the tank with deodorizer, restocks paper and sanitizer, checks the door latch, hinges, vent and floor, and levels the unit if the ground has shifted.
On a weekly schedule this happens on the same day each week so your crew or your event staff can plan around it.
Common add-ons
- Hand washing stationsFreestanding sinks with fresh water, soap and towels.
- ADA accessible unitsGround-level entry with interior turning space.
- Additional service visitsFor high-traffic sites or multi-day events.
- Interior lightingSolar or battery lighting for evening use.
- Extra stockingSurplus paper and sanitizer left on site.
- Event attendantsOn-site staff keeping units stocked during large events.
What is not included
Site preparation is yours: clearing the placement area, providing gate access and ensuring the ground is firm enough. Permits, where a municipality or park requires one for placement on public property, are the customer's responsibility, though we can tell you when one is typically needed.
Damage beyond normal wear — vandalism, a unit tipped by someone other than the wind, damage from being moved by hand — may be billed, and we always discuss it before invoicing. Disposal of anything other than normal restroom waste is not included, and putting construction debris or chemicals in a unit will result in a cleaning charge.
Questions worth asking any vendor
Is delivery and pickup in the quoted rate or added later? How many service visits are included and on which day? What is the charge for an off-cycle visit? Are stocking supplies included at delivery? What happens if I need the unit moved?
A vendor who answers those five clearly is quoting the same thing we are. One who cannot is quoting a lower number for less service.
